Okay, okay, okay! I have to admit! About a month ago I started making some amazing blended concoctions using kale, spinach, apples, grapes, frozen peaches, green tea, and yes, maybe even the kitchen sink! They were super yummy and left me with a surge of energy that I didn’t think I could get from drinking blended fruit. It got me thinking. What is this craze and should I join into it?
Did you know that people who get at least three servings of vegetables a day live up to three years longer than those that don’t? This is from a study done by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. So how does drinking your juice help? Well, for starters, you can push a whole lot of fruits and veggies into that blender and come out with a nice tall glass for yourself. It’s an easy way to sneak in a lot of “good for you.” Getting in your daily amount of fruits and vegetables is a struggle for most (about 70% of women don’t get the amount they need). Juicing also allows you to squeeze in fruits and veggies that you might not otherwise eat-like beets, spinach, or carrots.
Many people use juicing as a reset button to their health. Because you are filling your body with all natural ingredients and no added sugars, you will probably ditch the extra snacks because juicing is putting you in a healthier mindset. I know when I start my day off with healthy choices, the rest of my day tends to follow the same routine. Try it for a week and see if it works for you.
Be aware, though, that blending your fruits and veggies makes it quicker to eat…uh…drink them, so it is easier to intake too much. This could actually link to weight gain if you aren’t smart about how much you are consuming. Also, juicing is time consuming, so make sure you have set that time aside in the morning to prep and blend!
All that aside, juicing is yummy and it makes me feel good about what I’m putting into my body. I know all the ingredients that it contains and that is something I can be happy about. Here is my favorite recipe for a quick energy boost! Enjoy and Juice On!
